Millions of automatic electric doors open and close millions of times a day in every city and town in the United States. Are Americans so weak and uncoordinated that they are unable to open doors manually (as was done for hundreds of years before the invention of automatic electric doors)?
The same question can be asked about the millions of escalators in the United States that turn and burn electricity even when fat, heart disease riven, exercise deprived Americans are not riding on them.
How much electricity do these devices consume? How much coal, oil, nuclear waste, and natural gas does it take to power them?
