Editor,
Leaving aside that torture by Americans has demoralized many people here at home, engendered hatred towards us around the globe, and probably yielded no useful information, George Bush told the American people when the "abuse" at Abu Ghraib became public that he was "shocked" to learn of the behavior of the "few bad apples" who perpetrated those crimes. Beyond everything that is sickening, disheartening, and repugnant about torture-by-Americans is the fact that this . . . monster . . . Bush . . . dared to stand before the world and lie -- coldly -- that he, the man who ORDERED it, was "shocked" to learn it had occurred. What further offenses, for God's sake, will it take before this practitioner of crimes against humanity and his henchmen are removed from office and brought, finally, to justice?
