The UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights of 1948 states that "Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate to the health and well-being of himself and of his family, including food, clothing, housing, and medical care . . . "
So let's turn the poor away from hospital emergency rooms as your editorial suggests, where "the poor" are those 1.9 million Americans who work for wages at or below the minimum -- $5.15 an hour -- in this, the richest nation on Earth, with the most expensive health care system in the industrialized world.
