Condoleezza Rice recites garbage.

Editor,

Condoleezza Rice stated in your pages on 8/16 that the United States "worked urgently" to end Israel's demolition of Lebanon's civilian infrastructure. But anyone who followed the month of urgent UN negotiations during this catastrophe knows that the United States was the only country on this planet that resisted demanding that Israel stop bombing Lebanon.

Only after Israel started losing soldiers, tanks, and helicopters in their ground assault into Lebanon did Condoleezza Rice agree to a cease fire. Furthermore, the terms of the cease fire, as described by Condoleezza Rice, amount to the war aims that Israel was not able to achieve militarily. The thousands of Lebanese hostages imprisoned in Israeli jails, who in fact are the proximate cause of these hostilities, the Israeli occupation of the Bekaah Valley, and Lebanon's demand that Israel provide maps of the minefields they left in Lebanon when they were driven out by Hezbollah in 2000 are not even mentioned.

What kind of representation does this belligerence on the part of Condoleezza Rice provide American citizens on the world stage? In the manner of her war mongering Bushnik fellows, she is doing everything to diminish the United States as a valued partner in global politics and hammering yet more nails into the militaristic coffin she and they are preparing for us and the peoples of the Middle East.
