Editor,
The problem with Joe Lieberman is not his perennial support for American military domination of the planet, military spending of half a trillion dollars a year, reliance on military force to solve diplomatic issues in the Middle East, and the continuing American occupation of Iraq.
The problem with Joe Lieberman is that for the last 18 years he has been a staunch supporter -- from the Democratic and supposedly progressive side of the isle -- of the war launched by Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher 30 years ago on the working class. He has consistently supported tax cuts for the rich, regulations for a "flexible" workforce, racist decimation of the social safety net his party struggled to put in place over a span of 40 years, relaxation of regulations on corporations, and relaxation of regulations on transnational capital flows.
Joe Lieberman is a neoliberal Republican who mouths the hollow claim that he is a progressive Democrat. He does not represent the voters of his state. He represents multinational corporations, predatory financial institutions, and industries that deliberately disserve the interests of the American people.
