Biden. Military. Iraq War.

Editor,

Although Joe Biden comes across as a genuine and down-to-earth person, which he undoubtedly is, the Senator "has been one the leading congressional supporters of U.S. militarization of the Middle East and Eastern Europe, of strict economic sanctions against Cuba, and of Israeli occupation policies."

Moreover, while he chaired the Senate Foreign Relations Committee during the lead-up to the Iraq War in the latter half of 2002, Senator Biden was "perhaps the single most important congressional backer of the Bush administration's decision to invade."

[The quotes are from "Biden, Iraq, and Obama's Betrayal" at Foreign Policy in Focus.]

In the interest of a full and open debate about the future foreign policy direction of the United States, the substance of this article, which analyzes Senator Biden's foreign policy record, should be aired in the broadest possible forum.

The Senator does, thankfully, seem to be a well-meaning human being. He has notably demonstrated that he is able to learn from his mistakes, and it does seem finally to be time for him to rethink his understanding of our country's role in the world and the military in our country's foreign policy.
