Let's just sit tight here, consider the options, and give Wall Street an opportunity to conclude that the people carrying the cash -- us -- are going to set the terms of this bailout -- just like the fat cats do when they are in the catbird seat.
Anybody who wants to go under can just go under. With our $700 billion -- and there's plenty more where that came from -- we will devise a scheme to keep the wheels of Main Street oiled.
Why, we are A-M-E-R-I-C-A-N-S -- ingenuity and innovation in the flesh, just like Mr. Paulson said. Wall Street can eat their hearts out or do business with us on our terms. An offer they can't refuse.
