Editor,
The solution will require rethinking the competition between financial and industrial capital.
The "freewheeling" unregulated, outsourced, down-sized, union-busted, off-shored Reaganomic market economy was driven by corporations' loathing of concrete, actual products (and the workers who fabricate them) and infatuation with money-for-nothing derivatives that make dealers in them money without creating wealth.
Sucking the life-blood out of an economy and stuffing it into one's own pockets is an enjoyable business for certain predatory personality types, but it is a business that is bound to fail because for all the money changing hands nothing of value is made.
