Prosecute torture law violators.

Editor,

Obama's team has announced that they will not prosecute Bush administration officials who ordered, lied about, hid, or committed torture in violation of U.S. and international laws. Their argument seems to be that prosecuting war criminals for the war crimes they committed is politically infeasible.

This is nonsense. War criminals belong in jail, both as punishment for committing heinous crimes and to remind government officials now and in the future that they are constrained as is every citizen of the United States to obey the laws of this land.

Besides, revulsion at the Bush administration's policy of torture was a key political factor in Barack Obama's political victory.

What do we as a nation gain by letting war criminals off scot free, and what do we lose by shining the light of day on their conspiracy and despicable acts and punishing them in accordance with our laws?
