Mr. Summers,
"Losers" as a consequence of corporate globalization did not mysteriously and unexpectedly "lose."
Sweatshop workers in Southeast Asia, Haines wage slaves terrorized by armed madmen in Haiti, American rust belt workers thrown out of work when their job sites disappeared overseas were all deliberately targeted, as were the citizens of Mexico, Argentina, Russia, and a host of other countries as international capital flows were deregulated -- usually in a quid pro quo to receive crippling IMF and World bank loans -- in order to transfer an ever-growing share of this planet's wealth into the hands of a ever-smaller coterie of ruthless, unimaginably rich "investors."
Admitting that war has been waged on the people of the planet Earth by the ruling class is fine. It is the truth. But to claim that the consequences of this war are somehow accidental and a big surprise is a lie of monstrous proportions. Now the plan seems to be to throw the working class a bone. Thank you. I will gnaw on mine as directed and will continue to send $10 checks to the multitude of charities who come begging in my mailbox every day.
