Read this book.

Someone on the NYT editorial board should read "Descent Into Chaos" by Ahmed Rashid, who lays out the history of the Pakistani military's broad-daylight support for the Taliban and al Qaeda in tragic and depressing detail.

The Pakistani military is not one day going to wake up to its foolish ignorance of the threat, as the story is framed by the NYT. The Pakistani military always was, is, and always will be a fundamental pillar of the threat.

The sooner the NYT, and especially Washington, DC wakes up to this unfortunate reality, the less slim our hope of limiting the reach of Islamic militancy will be.
