Editor,
Regulate themselves? Isn't this an oxymoron?
Corporations are in the business of making as much money as they possibly can, with regard to no one's interest but their own. So why on earth would a corporation "regulate" itself? "Competition?" With whom? Other equally rapacious corporations who, by the way, are looking to cut more corners and break more rules and steal more money than their "competitors?"
We have a government in case no one noticed. We have laws. Our government and our laws are supposed to protect us -- the human beings who live here -- from corporations who will kill us without blinking an eye to make a dollar. Our government is supposed to "regulate" corporations -- if we human beings even decide that allowing killers and thieves to continue to run our economy is a good idea.
