Higher purpose.

Editor,

The patch of ground on which a person can feel secure is shrinking. Eventually all of humanity will be engaged in all-out war, as happened in 1939-1945, as brush-fire conflicts here and there and military occupations coalesce into one grand orgy of destruction, suffering, and death.

I miss the days when JFK and RFK and MLK called us all to a higher purpose. Yes, these were flawed individuals in a flawed society, but what they asked us to strive for can't be manufactured in an arms plant and is incalculably more valuable than money.
