Editor,
A fundamental political principle inheres in the Republicans' opposition to extending unemployment benefits for laid off workers: that it is fair and proper for a worker to lose his or her home and starve in the street in order that corporate officers can drive Mercedes and the number of zeros in share holders' portfolios can increase.
The Republicans and their fellow travelers in corporate boardrooms are free to run this country like Saudi Arabia if they can get away with it, but when they have managed to brutalize a sufficient number of American citizens, it will be they who will be shoeless, homeless, and penniless. I hope I see it. May the dumpsters feed them generously.
