Glenn Beck

Editor,

I can't sum up this interview in a few words, so here is the link:

Interview with Frances Fox Piven

You've got Glenn Beck telling his viewers day after day that:

"God will wash this nation with blood if He has to."
“The war is just beginning."
"Shoot me in the head if they try to change our government."
"You have to be prepared to take rocks to the head."
"The other side is attacking."
"There is a coup going on."
"Grab a torch."
"Drive a stake through the heart of the bloodsuckers."
"They are taking you to a place to be slaughtered.”

No, Glenn Beck is not telling people to shoot their Congresswoman. What he is saying is that he, Glenn Beck -- and his listeners -- are under attack, that his blood -- their blood -- is on the verge of running in the street. He is whipping up hysteria, scaring the bejesus out of the uninformed.

Why is he doing this? Because our government might just get away with taxing rich people fairly, regulating corporations, protecting consumers, supporting workers, and otherwise providing a safety net to American citizens in need unless he can mobilize enough people to stop it.

If a few nuts go off the deep end and start shooting to "take back their country," well, you have to crack a few eggs to make an omelet.
