Exemption of giant corporations and the wealthiest 1% of Americans from being taxed (or regulated in the case of corporations) is to 21st-Century America as slavery was to 19th-Century America: an irreconcilable ideological conflict that, after decades of half-hearted "compromises," will only be settled (in terms of which faction prevails -- Republicans will never concede defeat or admit their theories are insane) by civil war.
