"Cultural Marxism"

Editor,

Right-wing extremist’s agitation about what they call “Cultural Marxism” is frightening not only because their paranoia about it can and has resulted in horrific violence, but also because this enmity towards “Cultural Marxism” is mainstream in right-wing political discourse in the United States and Europe.

“Cultural Marxism” can be described as “political correctness on steroids” as Bill Berkowitz does in this 2003 article he wrote elucidating the history of this idea: "Reframing the Enemy".

Other, more disturbing links, connect the social, racial, and political fears that motivate the Norway shooter and those that define mainstream right-wing American political figures, including Pat Buchanan, Glenn Beck, Gabriella Geller, Andrew Breitbart, a host of Tea Party figures and fundamentalist right-wing Christian leaders like Pat Robertson, and others.

This interview with Devin Burghart, Vice President of the Institute for Research and Education on Human Rights, explores these links: DevinBurghart20110726.html.
