With globalization, corporate bosses have seen the abject poverty that workers in developing economies endure, and they have seen that such thoroughly impoverished workers manage to make it through the night somehow and show up to work the next day.
"Why, then," the titans of industry asked themselves, "bother paying anything to support the health and welfare of American workers? They will work whether we do or don't, and it is more money for us if we don't."
So the word went out to their politicians, and here we are.
