Editor,
The president is reported to have said that he would “never authorize the indefinite military detention of American citizens” because “doing so would break with our most important traditions and values as a nation.”
Does he not realize that once this abomination is law a successor of his can use the provision that "suspicion" of terrorism need not be proved to lock up their political enemies indefinitely without a trial? Like Occupy movement supporters, for example?
The presidency does not end with Mr. Obama, our apparently benevolent despot, but will continue -- worst case with a crazed Republican nincompoop armed now with the power to transform our country into a latter-day version of communist countries like the USSR.
