Gun nuts believe they are protecting the country from the government.
That's why they are so paranoid about the government "taking their guns away." They are afraid of "tyranny" and that they'll "lose their liberty" if their guns are "taken away."
This is deranged thinking reinforced constantly by media that serve the interests of the corporations relentlessly drumming into their heads that regulating big business is tantamount to Stalinism.
