Fantasy vs. Reality

Editor,

Romney's view that a person working three jobs and not making enough money to pay income tax is an indolent malcontent is a fantasy.

Obama's observation that people cling to guns, crazy religious beliefs, xenophobia, and weepy sentimentalization of foreign military adventures as a substitute for a fair shake by their niggardly bosses was an accurate understanding of how vast swaths of American society are disadvantaged by greedy wise-guys, not a disrespectful dismissal of an entire cohort on the basis of some presumed inherent flaw in their moral constitution.

Romney's subtext was: how can we sweep these vermin into the trash bin?

Obama's was: how can we give these citizens something legitimate to hope for? How can we help them access the resources they need to prosper?
