Extirpate Zia.

Editor,

India should mass a million troops on Pakistan's border and threaten to invade unless the ISI stops supporting Taliban and the Pakistani military launches a sustained and energetic offensive against the Taliban.

The problem is Pakistan government support for Islamist extremists as a barrier against Indian encirclement in Afghanistan.

This is not the West's fight.

This a political issue with which Pakistani civil society must confront its own government, military, and ISI.

If it means civil war in Pakistan, then so be it.

Pakistanis have stood by and allowed double dealing by their military and ISI for decades. It is their responsibility finally to extirpate Islamist remnants of Zia ul Haq from their government once and for all.
