Editor,
Mere mortals like us have no idea what it feels like to be absolutely, filthy rich. We think about human beings, equality, dignity, social justice. The filthy rich see ants whose function is to make the rich rich beyond anyone's wildest imagination.
Look at the French aristocracy before 1789. Look at plantation owners before 1865. Look at the Pharaohs, the Romans, Genghis Khan. The Tzars, the kings. Forgive me, I am very bad at lists.
My point is that what we grovelling masses think and want have nothing to do with the way the filthy rich see us, themselves, their money, or the world.
There is no way to convince them that paying taxes is good, taking care of the weak, the sick, the helpless, or the poor is good. Infrastructure? Bah! Schools? Bah!
Especially now, when Chinese slaves will labor for 30 cents an hour.
In the post-WWII years the rich feared the left. They saw what happened in 1917 in Russia and in 1949 in China. They didn't dare to shoot strikers or shirk paying taxes then because they were afraid the left would drag them from their beds and hang them from lampposts.
The rich are not afraid.
They own their Republican sycophants. They see how scared and weak, confused and disorganized the ants are, and they feel no need to give an inch.
Occupy was clubbed and gassed into the dirt.
Who is going to stand up to the rich and tell them what the tax code is going to be?
You?
