Well regulated militia.

Editor,

"A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."

Fine.

If you want to own a gun, then it seems clear to me that you are obligated to belong to a well regulated militia.

"Freedom is not free," as so-called "gun enthusiasts" say.

Belong to a well regulated militia.

Go to meetings, drills, trainings. Be on-call to repel a ground invasion of the USA by whatever army "gun enthusiasts" are so ready to lay their lives down to defend us from.

Your gun -- singular -- can stay at the local armory, just like the volunteer fire department's fire engine stays at the fire house.

But it isn't about a well regulated militia, is it?

It's about tin-foil-hat insanity that is stoked and stoked by the gun manufacturing industry, and it is precisely those people for whom "gun enthusiasts" say they are so ready to die who die for "gun enthusiasts'" right to own guns.
