When the USSR invaded Afghanistan in 1979, the USA armed the most fanatical Islamists it could find to fight them. To create a Soviet Vietnam was the idea.
Fast forward to Sept. 11, 2001, when precisely those Islamists attacked New York City and the Pentagon.
Revenge! Revenge!
The longest war in American history, Afghanistan, and finally, ten -- or will it be eleven, or twelve, or how many -- years later, the USA leaves Afghanistan having accomplished ... what? What the USA accomplished in Iraq? Senseless chaos, death, and devastation.
Will the USA ever learn that shooting that gun is not the way to resolve conflict?
Will Americans?
Kill, shoot, bomb!
