Cynical distraction.

Editor,

Overpopulation is a problem.
Global warming is a problem.

The solution to overpopulation is to have fewer offspring.
The solution to global warming is to stop burning fossil fuels.

Apologists for corporations that make hundreds of billions of dollars in profit -- and pollute vast swaths of land, water, and air -- extracting and selling fossil fuels are promoting the argument that reducing human population will reduce, or arrest, global warming.

This is cynical and a distraction.

The vast majority of human beings living in grossly overpopulated places are dirt poor and consume miniscule amounts of energy.

The USA, which has 5% of the world's population (concentrated in urban centers but otherwise distributed sparsely), consumes 25% of the world's energy.

Please do not be fooled by yet more right-wing pseudo-science.

Solving the population problem will not solve the global warming problem. Not burning fossil fuels will.

(As will putting an end to factory farming cattle and pigs, building and using mass transit, growing food locally, and all manner of ways to use less energy.)
