This planet, too.

Editor,

Military might is only an appropriate solution in one specific situation: when a foreign army invades your country.

The USA has poured untold trillions down a military rat hole, ignoring every other instrument of national security: scientific research, education, universal health care, financial stability, economic equality, truthful debate, environmental protection, etc., etc, etc., and through heavy-handed imperial tactics, not to mention unnecessary military adventures abroad, has turned who-knows-how-many individuals into people who do not like the USA.

A gigantic military and an ignorant population remind me of a dope with an arsenal of weapons in his basement. The dope would be far less dangerous to other people and much better off himself if he spent the time and money he has invested in being able to kill a lot of people in learning how to get along with them instead.

9/11, instead of being used to justify every stupid military and authoritarian fantasy Washington can come up with, should have been understood as an indication that we are doing something seriously wrong in the world.

And please don't tell me the problem is "resentment."

American business has got to learn how to share. At home and a broad. And stop using "force" to trample on anyone besides corporate America who wants to live on this planet, too.
