Man.

Editor,

Middle Eastern countries far less able to absorb refugees than the USA have accepted hundreds of thousands fleeing violence in Syria and Iraq, many from Iraq having been displaced by the American invasion.

And yet many citizens of the USA, the most powerful, richest nation on the planet, express such cruelty and lack of compassion for children fleeing countries decimated politically and economically by U.S. policies from the 1950's to the present it is truly heartbreaking.

How can a population be so ignorant of its own history? So ignorant of the effects of "free trade" policies that impoverish everyone they touch within and outside of the USA?

Have Americans even heard of the popular leaders in Central America that were deposed as a matter of U.S. foreign policy? The thousands murdered by death squads trained and funded by the USA?

Americans seem to assume they are entitled to destroy any countries, any societies, any people that they care to, then forget about it if they even noticed what they were condoning in the first place.

On top of this, when desperate children risk death and worse on an unimaginably arduous journey to the USA, rabid angry Americans demand that they be turned away with crazy ideological utterances, a selfish attitude, and an abstract way of looking at things that is utterly devoid of compassion for one's fellow man.
