Editor,
The U.S., NATO, and EU instigated violence in Ukraine by blaming unrest in the south and east of the country in response to chauvinistic policies instituted by Kiev on Russia.
The West backed Kiev's rejection of a federated solution to conflict between western Ukraine and the south and east of the country, leading to violence, which the West then blamed on Russia. (Russia has supported negotiation between separatists and Kiev consistently from the beginning.)
The West is using Ukraine as a pawn in its geostrategic ambition to weaken and ultimately dominate Russia, not only economically, but also militarily, as neocons have made abundantly clear in all of their public papers.
The NY Times is an important instrument in promulgating Cold War 2.0 ideology, much as it was in drumming up support for Cheney/Rumsfeld's invasion of Iraq in 2003 and is in Israel's ongoing policies of brutalizing Palestinians and stealing their land.
The NY Times understands some aspects of racism, self-determination, and indigenous rights very well, but only when this understanding does not clash with neocon aggressive aims.
