Mayor de Blasio has nothing to apologize for. He should stand tall and face his critics with confidence and the conviction of knowing that the people who elected him stand behind him.
These attacks from the right are not surprising. The right will seize on any opportunity to justify their brutality, violence, lawlessness, and racially disparate practices.
Mr. de Blasio is New York City's finger in the dike against even greater gains by American authoritarianism. He needs to choose the side of liberty and justice and stare down this threat.
