Editor,
In my neighborhood everybody knows that global capitalists and their BushCo puppets do not care who lives and dies.
Culture of life indeed. Ask anyone where I live what the future of the U.S.A. is and they will tell you Guatemala, 1953: a miniscule oligarchy owning virtually all of the nation's wealth living in opulent extravagance; a lapdog press a mouthpiece for the propaganda and outrageous lies of the ruling criminal class; a sadistic national police diappearing, torturing, and murdering anyone foolish enough to raise their voice in opposition or to organize resistance to global capital's death machine.
That's in my neighborhood, which is by no means extraodinary or unique. People in the U.S.A. have watched the dismemberment of our civilization since Ronald Reagan turned the mentally disabled out into the street. Many people have been bamboozled during the last 30 years into accepting that corporate growth must by necessity trump all other social values and that social justice equals "socialism", which by definition limits "freedom" -- which it does: it limits the freedom to plunder ruthlessly and to kill and destroy brazenly.
Americans are famous globally for being complacent sheep who will never rebel, and they have been shorn mercilessly for generations. Letting poor blacks starve in fetid waters for a week before condescending to pull them out might just be the spark to send the American anti-value that it is every man for himself up in smoke.
