Editor,
Re your editorial today, "Waiting for a leader": George Bush's constituency are international capitalists. American citizens from their perspective, like people everywhere on the planet, are inconsequential ants to be used, abused, ignored, or disposed of as international investments require.
The corporate press, knee deep in their own effort to survive in the capitalist onslaught, genuflect routinely to the exigencies of market forces. But human beings and other living things spring from forces and are driven by needs that exist outside of and are irrelevant to financial markets.
So the press are faced with a vital choice: participate fully in, even drive, humanity's education of itself to flourish as a life-form here on Earth, or reinforce the illusion that capitalism is not an inherently flawed levee about to burst.
The leader ultimately is you.
