Editor,
The energy crisis has two root causes: (a) over population, (b) consumerism -- meaning an economic model in which produce-consume drives the capital markets.
The solution to the energy crisis is to use less energy. Way less energy, starting with mass transportation (replace cars with Messerschmitt-like conveyances for tooling down to the train station), constructing towns where foot transportation is all that is needed (residence near workplace, as nearby shopping and recreation come for free -- so rethink the financial mechanics underlying home ownership).
The bottom line is to convert from a rich-people-dominant (produce-consume, financial market driven) to a sustainable economic model.
Energy sources to rely on are wind, geothermal, and solar. The money spent on the Iraq war would easily have advanced wind technology by 50 years. But the bottom line is to:
USE LESS ENERGY.
