Civilian control of the military.

Editor,

Civilian control of the military is a two-way street. Subordination is owed by the military to the government, but it is not owed to the 3 Stooges. In the realm of military science, professional soldiers bring specialized knowledge to the table. When and where this knowledge is applied, in a democracy, is the prerogative of "the people". But if military action is seriously contemplated, generals deserve deference to the experts that they are.
