Not complicated. Criminal.

Editor,

So. Wall Street sharpies created a "shadow" banking system to circumvent regulations agreed in the 1930's to limit how much commercial paper a financial institution can buy on credit. These mendacious louts parsed the distinction between commercial and investment banks so narrowly that they violated the spirit of the New Deal banking rules if not the letter and have inflicted yet another economic catastrophe on the American public, possibly the world.

Wall Street should be allowed to fall as a consequence of the very "free market" theory it uses daily to steal from everyone under the sun. Let the bankers live on the sidewalk with a blanket and a cardboard box like the poor they grind into the dirt without a thought. Another banking system will rise from the ashes, perhaps one that is built on social responsibility and honor.
