Editor,
The bonuses are a sideshow, red meat for the ripped-off rubes.
The real story is the unbelievably giant scam, bigger than any other in history, by which the fattest of the Wall Street fat cats, in collusion with ex-CEO's in government -- Rubin, Summers, Paulson, and others, some moved on now like Phil Gramm, who made legal their crimes -- are stuffing every nickel of the wealth of this planet into their own pockets.
AIG is a front: first to have flogged the worthless garbage smaller-time gamblers bought, and now to launder hundreds of billions of U.S. Treasury dollars into Goldman Sachs, Citibank, Bank of America, UBS, and other giant financial corporations, the CEO's of which made out like bandits coming and going.
It's the Pharaohs, the Conquistadors, the plantation owners, and Chicago School cold war autocrats all rolled into one. This is what the rich do -- steal everything from everyone, all the money, all the power.
