35 mpg by 2016? Greenland will be devoid of ice by then.
Cars should have started getting 100 mpg 30 years ago, and public transportation, in concert with sensible urban and suburban design, should have long ago obviated the need to use cars for 90% of personal travel.
But nooooo, this is the United States of America, where putting as many dollars in fat cats' pockets as possible trumps every fundamental economic need of our society.
