Editor,
I just finished reading another article on Page One about "reining in" too-big-to-fail financial institutions. Thinking about that article, and the articles about the destruction of Iraq by the Bush administration, and the articles about the occupation of Afghanistan, and the depredations of the health insurance corporations, and the destruction of the planet by the oil companies, and the prattling of right-wing demagogues about "socialism" if anyone suggests spending money on providing kids like the kids in this article with a safe place to live, I can only conclude that the U.S.A. has lost sight entirely of what is important in a society, namely taking care of each other, in its worship of the almighty dollar, and it is only a matter of time before this country falls apart completely. I have no idea what that looks like. Maybe how life is in Iraq or Afghanistan or Pakistan is where we are headed, where people are killing each other in the street over a can of tuna fish. God knows it's been happening every day for years in American inner cities. Maybe it just spreads to everywhere in the country.
