Who cares?

All this presupposes that our political system is predicated on empathy for our fellow human beings. But it is not. It is bought and sold by very rich people who do not care about anyone but themselves.

Remember Friedrich Hayek? Milton Friedman? Ronald Reagan? Free markets? Self interest? Thirty years of "conservative" framing?

How many American citizens really care about the misery and suffering this "self-interested" way of living has inflicted on the "losers" in the global empire? Some days I think it is a lot. Others I think it is a few. But with rare exception politicians and the people who lobby them most certainly do not. Why, those of your readers who still have jobs in all likelihood work for people who do not.
