Whose fault?

Editor,

The only reason Mr. Obama and his cabinet can give us for escalating the war in Afghanistan is a doomsday scenario if they don't, just like George Bush. How do they know doomsday will result if we withdraw?

It has been reported by many people in many ways that the American presence is inflaming the conflict. Robert Pape has made it perfectly clear that suicide bombings occur in response to foreign military occupation. Remove the occupation, and the bombings go away.

It was obvious last Sunday when Gates and Clinton were on the TV talk shows that they are grasping for a justification for their policy, that their policy has a life of its own in other words and can't be justified.

It's Vietnam all over again, Iraq all over again. Why the heck is the United States always at war with someone? Is it really all those other people's fault?
