This is nonsense.

Do the Taliban have tanks, artillery, planes of any sort let alone fighter jets? You invade one of the poorest, most battle-scarred corners of the planet and spin it as some sort of lofty stand against the greatest threat to the security of mankind since the Third Reich.

This is PR plain and simple, propaganda intended to rouse jingoistic support for the Empire. What Afghanistan has degenerated into absolutely did not have to happen. It's just one more set of ugly consequences of corporate greed run amuck, and now their victims are supposed to be our enemies.

Guns and bombs -- and troops! troops! troops! -- is not what this planet, Afghanistan in particular, needs.
