Editor,
Osama bin Laden claimed in a video tape after 9/11 that one of the reasons he attacked the U.S. is lopsided American support for Israel.
The U.S. since 9/11 has been fighting a "war on terror" in Afghanistan and Iraq, to the tune of 5,000 American lives, more than a trillion dollars, and untold Muslim civilian deaths.
Wouldn't a more sensible approach to terrorism that is caused, presumably, by lopsided American support for Israel be to adopt a more evenhanded position vis a vis the Palestinian and Israeli people? Is giving Israel $3 billion a year in predominantly military aid and a few million dollars in token aid to the Palestinian Authority evenhanded, especially given Israeli intransigence with respect to expansion of settlements in violation of U.N. resolutions?
