Editor,
Investors are always encouraged to do due diligence before buying a particular stock. A little research into BP's dismal safety record in Alaska, Texas, the Gulf of Mexico, and elsewhere before they caused this catastrophe would have warned a savvy investor away from risking a nickel on BP.
In fact, investors in BP are enablers of BP because by supporting BP's price per share they encouraged BP not to do anything to correct its egregious policies with regard to worker and environmental safety. Too bad there isn't a way to sue BP's investors. They bear a share of the blame for what BP's negligence is doing to the Gulf of Mexico.
