A pathetic sight to see.

Editor,

There is no way to talk sense to the simple-minded, by whom I mean "conservatives," who, by definition, cannot see beyond the ends of their noses or think abstractly. It's one of the hard-and-fast dichotomies that apparently began with the interbreeding of Neanderthal men and Cro-Magnon women.

The most cursory reading of the history of the Great Depression yields that all was actually getting a little better by 1936, but deficit hawks were spooked by all the borrowed money that was being spent to put people to work, and the spending dried up. Not very bright, but it is greed not brightness that defines the "conservative" brain, and the rest is history.

Now we have Fox TV and other equally compelling electronic media to inform the uninformed that just another variant of the same simple-minded short-term thinking that visited the current economic catastrophe on us will solve it.

I guess the destiny of the dumb is that they merely get what they deserve, but folks who actually see the cliff that dopes are driving us towards are stomping on the floor boards for that non-existent brake pedal, and it is a pathetic sight to see.
