Consciousness atoms.

Egos do not reincarnate whole one lifetime to the next. The consciousness atoms of which the self-aware aspect of ourselves is composed dissipate on death and recombine with other consciousness atoms in other living things as lives and deaths go by. Think of the conservation of matter, how the atoms of which your body is composed disassociate upon your death, then combine with other atoms to form other material things.

The universe is composed of physical and consciousness atoms. Some physical atoms combine to form your body; some consciousness atoms combine to form your ego. The universe, since it is composed of physical and consciousness atoms, is aware of its own existence and is capable of the experience of joy.

Consciousness atoms combine in egos for the purpose of conscious evolution: from less to more peaceful and less to more joyful. Our job is to learn to relax and enjoy life, which is how conscious evolution occurs. When every consciousness atom in the universe has evolved to the point where it is at peace and full of joy, the universe itself will be at peace and full of joy. Then life, which is the vehicle by which conscious evolution occurs, will cease because it will no longer be necessary.
