Editor,
If American elections, which are based on manipulation of the uniformed with outright lies, were not funded by the giant corporations that dominate the American economy and are first in line for corporate welfare, the United States might have a government capable of managing state-owned enterprises that are not corrupt, create products coveted across the globe, and provide services that promote the general welfare of the American public.
But the American government is so corrupt that anyone who assumes that all governments are by definition as bad as ours would naturally dismiss immediately the suggestion that state-run enterprises can be better for a country than giant corporations which: concentrate more and more wealth in fewer and fewer -- and ever-wealthier -- hands, destroy our economy with unregulated financial instruments that are bound to fail, destroy our environment with unregulated oil wells that are bound to explode, destroy people's life savings with scams and schemes that are winked at if not blessed outright by our corrupt government, etc. etc. etc.
I like the phrase "government meddling" in this article. What a joke. Meddling in what? The thievery and other crimes of the warlords, answerable to no one, not even their shareholders, who run the giant corporations that rule the world?
