Understanding.

Editor,

This meeting between Rev. Jones and Imam Rauf could actually wind up defusing the mounting animosity of a growing number of non-Muslim Americans toward their Muslim neighbors if the imam is able to put the reverend's objections to 21 Park Place to rest.

If the reverend emerges from that meeting and makes a conciliatory statement that is not distorted by Faux news, Rush Limbaugh, Newt Gingrich or any other right-wing blowhards doing all they can to provoke Muslim extremist attacks on American travelers and business people world-wide, we might finally be able to move on from this anti-Muslim hysteria.

Reverend Jones is upset. If Imam Rauf is able to calm his fears, our entire nation and the whole world might turn away from religious animosity and begin to cultivate some much needed understanding.
