Editor,
The tax deal that President Obama struck with Republicans on Dec. 6 reminds me of the Missouri Compromise of 1850: no civil war today, but it can only be staved off for so long. Republicans, corporations, and the rich against everybody else. Temporary, nasty stop-gaps but no way to bridge an unbridgeable divide.
