Bad or worse.

Editor,

What needs to be remade is not the culture of one entire industry but the entire political process in the United States of America.

Big money -- from banks, oil companies, telcos, and other giant corporations -- buys politicians who either believe the laissez-faire economic nonsense that they spew or espouse it cynically so they can live the life of Riley on taxpayers' backs.

In either case, regulation that is essential to the health of our environment, our economy, and ourselves is relaxed -- regulatory agencies are defunded, gutted, and administered by industry hacks -- and havoc reigns supreme in our nation.

Our problem is not the oil industry specifically or BP, Transocean, or Halliburton in particular. It is Republican mumbo-jumbo, the right-wing propaganda machine, and corruption among the American political class that is as bad or worse than it has ever been.
