The US will not support regime changers in Syria because Sunni Syria is a bulwark between Israel and Shiite Iran, and as everybody knows, Israel is the linchpin of American policy in the Middle East.
Muamar "Humanitarian Crisis" Qaddafi is an awful man, but awfulness is not a factor in any genuine politician's realpolitk. Counts against the unfortunate despot Qaddafi include: operating outside of the international banking system, sitting on a pile of gold, not supporting hard linkage between the US dollar and oil -- not unlike the capital offenses of one Mr. Saddam "WMD" Hussein.
